ROBERT WILEY – MEDIA DIRECTOR
Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, my name is Robert Wiley. I am the Media Director for The Sanctuary of Abilene in Abilene, Texas. A One God, Apostolic, Jesus Name Baptizing, Holy Ghost filled, Holiness Lifestyle living assembly that I have been attending all my life. When I became a believer in December 2004, God has taken me through a lot in the 13 ½ years that I have been living for Him. I can promise you, I am not the man I used to be. God has and still is doing a work in this West Texas resident. One way you can tell is through my preaching. If you had first heard me back when I first started, you would have thought, I was the worst “fraidy-cat” you ever did see. However, God has transformed me. Yes, I am still a work in progress, But I am trusting God. Another way you can tell is, my media skills are slowly improving. I'm learning a little bit more here and there.
A little bit about myself. I was born at Dyess AFB to parents who had recently found the truth sometime before I was born. I am a native Abilenian who is into trains and video games so much so that I have a YouTube channel full of videos on those two subjects. I am a Computer Networking student at Texas State Technical College here in Abilene who is hoping to graduate by the end of August this year. It has blown my peer's minds that I keep going back semester after semester, but I am pressing towards an associates degree. A lot of people would have gotten burned out by now, and I will admit, I am getting burned out myself, but I can't give up when I'm this close to the finish line. These last two and a half years have proved I am a determined individual who can stick with a cause through to the end.
Media ministry had been a thought and a prayer of mine for quite some time before I actually started in the media department. My initial reason for starting this ministry was so those who were out of town or out sick could access the sermons they missed and listen to them over and over again. It did not occur to me at that point in time that a person on the other side of the globe could tune in and see our services from where ever he or she happened to be.
One thing that was holding me back from attempting this ministry other than my spiritual authority figures, was the thought of “Who would even watch the services from a church somewhere in Abilene, Texas?” However in the summer of 2011, I was on Google's search engine, and out of boredom typed a random church name, and among the top ten search results was a YouTube video produced by a small church somewhere in North Carolina. After viewing some of this church's content, I decided when the time was right, and with permission, I would attempt to start recording services at my home church.
I bought a camcorder a few days before Mother's Day 2012 and recorded the entire AM service on Mother's Day, all the while silently praying and asking God if my pastor did not want this to continue, to shut it down immediately. After Sunday night church that same day I asked my pastor if he wanted me to continue recording services or shut it down. He said to put the service on YouTube. I created a channel for the church and used it until we decided in September that year to change our church name to what it is today. This change caused me to create the current YouTube channel that we continue to use to this day.
For the first 3-4 years that I recorded services for the church, I was just uploading the mp4 or video files as they were without doing hardly if any editing to them because I did not have a good video editing program that I could use. However, in 2016, I was researching movie editor programs for Windows and came across a program called Wondershare Filmora. At first, I was hesitant to use it, so I did the free trial period just to see how it worked and eventually bought the full package. I have been using Filmora for not just the church videos, but also my personal ones as well for about 2 years now and while it's not 100% perfect, it is a reliable video editor.
